Another Great Song From The White Stripes

Music

Sunday morning, coding and jamming along with Jack and Meg:

I can see your man can’t help but win
Any problems that may arise
But in his mind there can be no sin
If you never criticize

You just keep on repeating
All those empty "I love you’s"
Until you say you deserve better
I’m gonna lay right into you

The White Stripes: We’re Going To Be Friends

Music

Tonight I’ll dream while I’m in bed
when silly thoughts go through my head
about the bugs and alphabet
and when I wake tomorrow I’ll bet
that you and I will walk together again
I can tell that we are gonna to be friends
Yes I can tell that we are gonna be friends

White Stripes – Seven Nation Army

Music

Recently fell in love (again) with this track from 2003:

And if I catch it coming back my way
I’m gonna serve it to you
And that aint what you want to hear
But thats what I’ll do
And the feeling coming from my bones
Says find a home

It’s obviously relentlessly subjective and personal, but nevertheless, my list of the most danceable tunes of the 00’s, in no particular order except for the last:

  2. Paper Planes – M.I.A.
  3. Rehab – Amy Winehouse

And finally,my vote for the best dance track of the decade:

View the video here at DailyMotion.com.

Just missing my list, but still way up there: Cascada, Milky, Kylie Minogue, Justice, The Killers, Lady Gaga, Rihanna (several times!), Avril Lavigne, and the Gorillaz.

What tracks would be on your list?

Swim

Music

Great tune from Jack’s Mannequin:

You gotta swim
Swim for your life
Swim for the music that saves you
When you’re not so sure you’ll survive

You gotta swim
And swim when it hurts
The whole world is watching
You haven’t come this far
To fall off the Earth

The currents will pull you
Away from your love
Just keep your head above

I found a tidal wave
Begging to tear down the dawn
Memories like bullets
They fired at me from a gun
Cracking the armour, yeah

I swim for brighter days
Despite the absense of sun
Choking on salt water
I’m not giving in
I swim

Matt Nathanson’s “Come on Get Higher”

Inspiration, Music

I miss the sound of your voice
And I miss the rush of your skin
And I miss the still of your silence
As you breathe out and I breathe in
If I could walk on water
If I could tell you what’s next
I’d make you believe
I’d make you forget

The Beatles: For No One

Music

Your day breaks, your mind aches
There will be times when all the things
She said will fill your head
You won’t forget her

And in her eyes, you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

Sister Hazel – All For You

Music

Finally I figured out,
But it took a long, long time.
Now, I’ll never turn about,
Maybe ’cause i’m tryin’

There’s been time,
I’m so confused.
And all my roads,
Well,they lead to you.

I just can’t turn and walk away…

It’s hard to say what it is,
I see in you.
Wonder if i’ll always be with you.
Words can’t say it,
And I can’t do,
Enough to prove,
It’s all for you.

And I thought i’d seen it all,
‘Cause it’s been a long,long time.
Oh, I bottled up and trip and fall,
Wonderin’ if i’m blind.

There’s been time,
I’m so confused.
And all my roads,
Well,they lead to you.

Great Song: Robyn’s “Be Mine”

Music

Great lyrics, great singer, great tune:

This song has a sort of early-80’s Cyndi Lauper feel to it. Which makes sense, because I loved Cyndi Lauper when I was 13.

It’s a cold thing you never know all the ways I tried
It’s a hard thing faking a smile when I feel like I’m falling apart inside
And now you’re gone it’s like an echo in my head
And I remember every word you said
