.NET Framework 2.0a

Software

I’d never heard of the .NET Framework version 2.0a until the .NET Framework 3.5 installer bombed out (after 30 minutes – slow machine) with the error saying it couldn’t install because I didn’t have .NET version 2.0a installed.  Yes, there is an “a” there at the end.

WTF is this?  Must be a hotfix or something.  Googling fails me.  Interestingly, googling for the quoted phrase “.net framework 2.0a” returns results with the following punctuation embedded in it:

  • .net framework 2.0: a
  • .net framework 2.0. a

Yoink!

I received the same error and also said WTF. I do know I had a (pre-release of .net framework 3.5 installed) I tried to uninstall it and all hell broke loose. I tried those .Net uninstallers with no luck.

    Error Log is as follows:

[02/21/08,11:13:26] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a. MSI returned error code 2
[02/21/08,11:13:53] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0a is not installed.

Same issue here. It has even screwed up the .NET 2.0 installation big time as well. Now I am not able to repair/Uninstall .NET Framework 2.0 and none of the applications on my system that require .NET Framework 2.0 work.

So.. How do we fix this HUGE problem then? Because it’s kinda lame when i can’t play witch game i want just cuz of the .NET fw 3.5 version is required?

Do i have to remove all of the old versions? Or do i just have to figure out what that “A” is?
