There are at least 15 things wrong with this blog page. Can you spot them all?

Well, let’s take a stab at it:

1. The background of the Seattle skyline is repeated horizontally, which is disconcerting.
2. The banner ad covers the calendar.
3. There are 17 items of feedback awaiting moderation, three weeks after the item has posted.
4. The trackback URL extends past the main column width, overwriting some information in the right column.
5. There are two poorly constructed plurals, which is either an indication of bad programming, or poor familiarity with English (or both!).
6. The “Archives” section shows me this month, and last month, but then stops with a “more” link. Odd.
7. Am I really going to browse through 3,179 posts in November? Doubt it.
8. The Search radio buttons are misaligned.
9. The “Recent” posts are labeled “Recently”, which makes me doubly suspect that this is a blog by a person for whom English is not the native language.
10. There are two “Archives” links.
11. There’s a “Login” link — on a blog aggregator (as I assume MyBlogHarvester most certainly is), what am I logging in to?
12. The timestamp shows seconds — odd, if not exactly an error.
13. There are two bookmark buttons.
14. The “Blogroll” section on the left seems…underpowered, considering the number of posts I may have to wade through.
15. White text on blue background is not nearly as readable as black-on-white, or some close equivalent.

So what have I learned from this exercise? Two things:

1. It’s important to think like the user when evaluating software.
2. It’s easier to critique than to create.
