Twhirl “Limit Exceeded” Message

Have you see the error on the bottom of your Twhirl Twitter client that says something like “limit exceeded, paused 5 min”?

If so, here’s the culprit:

The API limit is still being kept at 30 requests per hour to help us stabilize the service for everyone. Some folks will get “rate limit exceeded” error if you use API clients that request data from us at a higher rate. Please reconfigure them appropriately for the time being.

Change this setting down to 30 in Twhirl by clicking on the wrench icon at the top (Configuration), then the Network tab, then the Request Usage dropdown.

    Well that doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. I set it to 30/hr and wait and wait and wait. It never connects (even on first connect). how can I be over my limit if I haven’t tweeted in days?

    @Chuck – I’m pretty sure that Twhirl polls the Twitter API in the background, looking for tweets that should be delivered to you. Also, I still noticed some “limit exceeded” messages even at 30/hr, so I bumped my limit down still further, to 20/hr. Like a lot of people, I also use the Twitter website a lot recently to avoid throttling latency.

    Having said all that, there may be a different problem you’re running into if you ALWAYS see the error message.
