The geekosphere will be all over this one. Merriam-Webster chose the word “w00t” as the top word of the year for 2007, beating out “facebook” (ugh), “conundrum”, and a 500-year-old goodie, “quixotic”. Two of the words in the top 10 were completely unfamiliar to me: “sardoodledom” (staginess, melodrama), and “Pecksniffian” (unctuosly hypocritical, after a character in Dickens’ Martin Chuzzlewit).
Hearing the winner brings me back to 2001 and some free-for-all Counter-Strike battles on de_dust, M4A1 murdering Terrorists in the face as I race in to cut them off from planting the bomb at “B”…
w00t! w00t!
